Chinese opera--lao sheng and huan dan

Oil on canvas 100 x 120 cm

Lao Sheng (old man with a beard: dignified, polished, official, scholar)
Hua Dan (flirtatious, playful female)
Peking opera roles fall into four categories: Sheng, Dan, Jing and Chou. The roles have the natural features of age and sex, as well as social status, and are artificially exaggerated by makeup, costume and gestures.1. Male Role (Sheng);2. Female Role (Dan);3. Painted Face Male (Jing);4. Comedy Actor or Clown (Chou).

Finished on the last day of 2009. wishing all my dear friends a happy new year.

Absolutely marvelous. You have a style that is quite different, but strikingly appealing. I'm fascinated. And welcome to my blog and thanks so much for visiting.
